Terms
Last changed 20 October 2026.
These are the terms for using Project Joy, the app and the site at projectjoy.me. They are short because the thing itself is small. If you have a question about them, write to hello@projectjoy.me.
Where things stand
Project Joy is early. It is being built by one person and it changes often. Screens move, names change, and something that worked last week may work differently this week. If it ever has to close, you’ll get notice by email and a way to take your writing with you first.
Your account
- One person, one account, made with an email address and a password.
- The password is yours to keep. What happens through your account is on you, so tell us if you think someone else has got in.
Your writing
What you write is yours. We claim no rights over it beyond what is needed to store it and show it back to you. Other account holders cannot see it, unless you leave a moment at the campfire or send a note there. Sending a note lets Project Joy show it to that moment’s author until either of you removes it, the moment is removed or either account is deleted. Leaving a moment lets Project Joy show it there to other account holders until you take it back or it is taken down. The person running Project Joy can technically open saved moments, photos and campfire notes. We use that access only with your permission, for the specific support purpose you have agreed to. The privacy page explains it. If you leave, you can take your writing with you.
What not to do
- Don’t try to get into anyone else’s account, or into parts of the service that aren’t yours.
- Don’t hammer the service with automated requests, or try to bring it down.
- Don’t use it to store anything it is illegal for you to have.
- Don’t leave a moment or send a note at the campfire that names or shows another person without their agreement, is cruel to someone, or would be illegal to share. Anything at the campfire can be taken down.
If any of that happens, the account can be closed.
Cost
There is no charge for Project Joy today. If that ever changes, you will hear about it by email before anything is charged, and what you have written will not be held hostage.
What we promise, and what we can’t
We run it carefully, we keep backups, and we try to keep it up. Even so, it comes as it is, with no guarantee that it will be available at any given moment or work without mistakes. Keep your own copy of anything you couldn’t bear to lose. As far as the law allows, we aren’t liable for loss or damage that comes from using Project Joy or from being unable to. Where a limit like that can’t apply, our liability is capped at what you have paid us, which today is nothing.
Ending
You can leave any time: email hello@projectjoy.me and the account and everything in it will be deleted. We can close an account that breaks these terms, and we’ll say why unless the law stops us.
Changes
When these terms change, the date at the top changes. If the change matters, account holders hear about it by email first. Carrying on using Project Joy after that means the new terms apply.
